SPRING AWAKENING is a rock musical adaptation of the 1891 play. Set in late-19th century Germany, it portrays the tumultuous lives of a group of teenagers struggling with their burgeoning sexuality and its many consequences. Winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, it blends folk-infused rock music with controversial themes to heartbreaking effect. Due to the mature nature of the show’s themes, all performers must be 16 years of age or older.
Rehearsals will be held various weeknights and weekend days beginning September 15. Eight performances are scheduled for October 28-30 and November 4, 6 & 11-13.
Seeking up to nine men and nine women, ages 16-50, for principle and ensemble roles. All roles are available. Performers of all races, ethnicities & abilities are encouraged to audition!

Please prepare a full song that best represents your voice and ability to emotionally connect with, and perform, a lyric. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring sheet music in the proper key. Any genre of song is appropriate. Sides will be provided for readings from the script. Headshots and resumes preferred, but not required.
Character Breakdown:
WOMEN
WENDLA BERGMAN, Playing age 16-21; Soprano – A schoolgirl; innocent, but curious; her sense of self grows faster than her maturity. Partial nudity required.
MARTHA BESSELL, Playing age 16-21; Alto – A schoolgirl; abuse victim; skittish, but possessing inner strength.
THEA ROBEL, Playing age 16-21; Mezzo – A schoolgirl; fearful, repressed people-pleaser.
ANNA, Playing age 16-21; Alto – A schoolgirl; caring and resolute; smart and bossy.
ILSE NEUMANN, Playing age 16-21; Mezzo – A bohemian girl; sexually free and liberated from school and family.
THE ADULT WOMAN, Playing age 30-50; Alto – Various roles from teachers to parents; a versatile actress able to shift both physically and vocally to the various demands required of up to five characters.
ENSEMBLE/UNDERSTUDIES, Playing age 16-50; Various – Chorus/instrumental; versatile performers with strong singing voices and stage presence. Experience playing violin or cello a plus.
MEN
MELCHIOR GABOR, Playing age 16-21; baritone – A schoolboy; gifted, well-liked student of great promise; questions authority, but unaware of his own power. Partial nudity required.
MORITZ STIEFEL, Playing age 16-21; tenor – A schoolboy; very poor student; plagued with anxiety and self-doubt; awkward, insecure, uncomfortable in his own body.
HANSCHEN RILOW/RUPERT, Playing age 16-21; tenor – A schoolboy; humorous, almost to the point of arrogance; effortlessly seductive.
ERNST ROBEL/REINHOLD, Playing age 16-21; tenor – A schoolboy; highly naïve; falls completely for Hanschen’s seduction.
GEORG ZIRSCHNITZ/DIETER, Playing age 16-21; tenor – A schoolboy; uncontrollably lusts for his older piano teacher.
OTTO LAMMERMEIER/ULBRECHT, Playing age 16-21; tenor – A schoolboy; plagued by dreams of his mother.
