Personville Press, a Houston-based epublishing company is seeking a male actor to participate in a staged recording of a 1 Act play. This audio recording will be sold commercially starting Fall, 2012. The recording will be made in July in Houston.
MORE DETAILS ABOUT THE PLAY AND PLAYWRIGHT:
* 45 minutes long, 2 characters (1 male, 1 female)
* Written by a prolific author of 20+ books and distinguished professor of English literature at a major university
* philosophical comedy reminiscent of Tom Stoppard or possibly Mark Twain. It is a linguistic tour de force.
*Play title: “Interview with the Sphinx” by Jack Matthews. It’s a surreal interview in modern setting between an unnamed interviewer and a character from Greek mythology, the female sphinx. (Incidentally, it might help to have some familiarity with classical Greek drama).

“Man in his thirties or forties. His voice and mannerisms are suggestive of both the professional broadcaster and the academic intellectual.” (This is the playwright’s description; it’s not crucial that the actor be in the exact age range for an audio production although he should be able to fake it adequately)
His manner is polite, inquisitive, sometimes clever or interrogational. There’s a lot of banter between the two characters. The interviewer is more like a straight man to the female sphinx character, but he gets in a few zingers, I promise.
PAYMENT:
$300, plus guaranteed 30% share of royalties from earnings for 16 years
APPROXIMATE AMOUNT OF WORK INVOLVED: 2 rehearsals and a half-day
recording on a weekend in July.
Must generally be around the Houston or Katy area.
