Auditions for SOMETHING IS WRONG, Produced by Naught Theatre.
Actors, Dancers, and Dancing Actors are needed for a new play, premiering the week of July 29th-August 3rd at the Pia Bouman School Theatre:
Something Is Wrong,
Written and Directed by William Rasitsan-Powell
Something Is Wrong is a philosophically driven play that incorporates poetic text and dance in a struggle to answer some big questions. It follows the story of Thespis, who feels that something is wrong, and refuses to have that question put aside by the forces he encounters in the world of the play.
Parts being cast:
Iris (Female, Age 19-30): Iris is a spirit-like force, something of a star falling from the sky. She is intensely open to the world around her, heavily affected by everything she sees and feels. She sees through things. She feels things directly and is excited and enticed by them. She sees and experiences the brightest and the darkest aspects of humanity, from moment to moment, relentlessly, and with great pleasure and enjoyment. She is a gentle lover and a savage beast. Her fearlessness and fiercely direct attitude are huge driving forces in the play.
Daemon (Male or Female, Age 20-40): The play’s main antagonist, Daemon is a keeper of order, a protector of the way things are. He is a powerful force, steadfast and cunning. He is provoked by Thespis at the beginning of the play, and immediately goes on the offensive, where he is quite comfortable fighting such an easy adversary.
Chorus (All ages and sexes): The Chorus is a group of men and women, impressionable and very powerful. They remain onstage for nearly the entirety of the play. Thespis is created out of the Chorus.
The Mad One (Male or Female, any age): Created from the Chorus, The Mad One is injured in a fight, and changed. For better or worse is a matter of opinion. She is the definition of manic,
The ages listed above are suggestions. Please feel free to audition for parts outside your age range.
All of the roles (with the exception of Care and Daemon) will require extensive movement/dance work, both as part of the audition process and the performance. We are looking for people comfortable with creative movement and the ability to work with dense, poetic text.
Auditions will take place on May 2nd and 3rd at Artist’s Play School of Dance.
Rehearsal will be 2-3 days a week for the months of May, June and July, with extra rehearsals in the last few weeks before performance.
The show will be a profit-share.
