The Producers for ABC’s new television series “Rising Star” are holding a nationwide casting call for aspiring singers!
Rising Star completely reinvents the traditional singing competition as–for the first time ever–the audience has the final say in real time. The show follows a group of aspiring singers as they audition in live performances. During the performances, viewers vote via an App in real time to determine if the singer will advance in the competition. If the voting reaches a certain threshold, the performer moves on, and the performer can see how the voting is going during the performance, so the feedback is immediate and dramatic.

The “Rising Star” integrates real-time app voting and audience participation. The twist in this format is that it is done in real-time through the app they are developing for the show. After the prrformance viewers use the app to vote and the votes are shown in a dramatic way on a huge screen. In a Variety story about the show, Managing director, Alon Shtruzman, describes this format “Talent shows are no longer a place for judges,” “It’s now the audience. In a way, the assumption is that it’s hard to stand out because there are so many shows, and because ‘Rising Star’ came after over a decade of talent shows.”
This music competition format is from an Israeli producer, Keshet . The Hollywood Reporter, reported that the show now has deals for other major markets.
When will they post the RISING STAR venue?
I don’t know. Seems they want everyone to go register first. They may just send that info to people who registered.
