BK Productions will be holding AUDITIONS for Gypsy the Musical

What: GYPSY is a musical with music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Arthur Laurents. GYPSY is loosely based on the 1957 memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, the famous striptease artist, and focuses on her mother, Rose, whose name has become synonymous with “the ultimate show business mother”. It follows the dreams and efforts of Rose to raise two daughters to perform onstage and casts an affectionate eye on the hardships of show business life. The character of Louise is based on Lee, and the character of June is based on Lee’s sister, the actress June Havoc.

The musical contains many songs that became popular standards, including “Everything’s Coming Up Roses”, “Together Wherever We Go”, “Small World”, “Some People” and “Let Me Entertain You”.

When: Saturday, July 19…. 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sunday, July 20….1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Callbacks to be held on Sunday, July 20….7 p.m.

Where: Brannon Heard House at 1111 Pilgrim Mill Rd. in Cumming, GA 30040 (across the street from the Cumming Playhouse).

Performance Dates: October 17 – November 9. All performances will be held at the Cumming Playhouse at 101 School Street 30040.

Gypsy the Musical will be holding auditions in Atlanta

Rehearsal schedule: Rehearsals will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7-10 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. – 3p.m. Not everyone will have to be at every rehearsal. We will accommodate our young people and send them home early on school nights.

Requirements: We ask that each person who is auditioning be prepared to sing a song. You may bring sheet music (there will be an accompanist available) or bring a CD (minus a vocal track) or you may sing accapella. You have the option of preparing a comedic monologue (no more than one minute) or you can read from the script. For those who dance, we will have our choreographer show you a simple dance routine, so please wear comfortable clothing and bring dance shoes if applicable.

Teens from 13 – 16
Adults from 17 – ?

ALL ROLES ARE AVAILABLE EXCEPT MAMA ROSE WHICH HAS BEEN PRE-CAST

  • Louise: Rose’s younger brow-beaten daughter
  • June: Rose’s other daughter…the older she gets, the less she enjoys being her mother’s trained monkey
  • Herbie: Rose’s agent and suitor – a gentle man
  • Tulsa: One of June’s boy chorus dancers. Very “boy next door” and very talented. Loves June.
  • Baby June: Talented “over-produced” young girl – pretty and cute
  • Baby Louise: June’s less-talented older sister but sweet and smart
  • Tessie Tura: A burlesque dancer (former ballerina) that shares her dressing room with Louise
  • Mazeppa: A comedic burlesque dancer
  • Electra: A comedic burlesque dancer
  • Several men and women are needed for supporting roles.
