ROBERT ROTH, 60, is a New York Italian/Jew and a “has-been” screenwriter from the 80s, who drank his career away one movie deal at a time. He rubbed shoulders with all the big names back then and has some pretty crazy stories to share. He’s a regular at “The Writer’s Room” bar. He’s usually sitting on the corner stool with his Brooklyn Dodgers hat on watching Sports Center. He’s been divorced twice and never had any children because work always got in the way.
He hasn’t had a job in years but makes enough to get by from gambling what little money he has left. He still loves movies and spends most of his days reading scripts at the WGA Library on Fairfax. He listens to the boys talk about their ambitions and dreams and does his best to give them good, sage- like advice.
Even though his exile from Hollywood has left a bitter taste in his mouth, he’s reminded of the joy he once felt by living vicariously through Brad and Jacob.
“They still have those starry eyes.”
