Principal roles to be cast include:

Ava Brigance: 70’s, a southern woman. Proper and demur, oozes southern charm. The only person
in town Bate Hobbs ever trusted.

Bate Hobbs: 60, the meanest man in town. (This is a non-speaking role and requires a stunt fall.)
Walter: 30, Ava’s regular taxi driver. Friendly and good-natured, Walter likes to talk.

Jonathan Hobbs: 25-35, Bate Hobbs’s estranged son. A police detective, he is in town to see for
himself that his father is dead.

Sandra Dillon: 30-45, Bate Hobbs’s “message therapist”. Well-endowed, she’s brashly stylish, though not in an “age appropriate” way. She has trailer park roots and an eye toward Bate Hobbs’s money.

Rev. Josiah Carrol: 50, pastor of the First Church. Holds great disdain for Bate Hobbs.

Sam Young: 50-60, one of Bate Hobbs’s senior partners. Greedy and unlikable, Sam is always
blinking with a nervous twitch and rubbing his eyes.
Vincent Logan: 35-50, a crooked junior partner in Hobbs’s company. Vincent constantly pulls at and
fiddles with his ears.

Kenneth Hamilton: 50-60, another senior partner. Just as greedy and untrustworthy as the other two.
His lip twitches.

Dickey Breedlove: 55+, Bates Hobbs’s attorney. Not quick, but not stupid. Hobbs has had him on
retainer for a long, long time.

Usher One & Usher Two: 50+, funeral service ushers. Usher Two is hard of hearing.
** Roles for extras include members of Bate Hobbs’s house staff – Ages 20+ **
