Open Casting Call for “Captain Fantastic” starring Viggo Mortensen

The major feature film “Captain Fantastic” is about to begin production in New Mexico

Extras casting directors at Midthunder in Albuquerque are holding an open call for extras this coming weekend in the Albuquerque area.

The production stars Viggo Mortensen, Steve Zahn and Kathryn Hahn. The film is looking for background actors for a large funeral scene. They are seeking adults of various ages and are particularly interested in adults who are 55 and older. The open call is set for the 8th of August and the scene will be filming the following week on the 14th and 15th.

Captain Fantastic is a comedy / drama with Viggo Mortensen playing a father who is set on teaching his kids some outdoor survival skills. Viggo is a bit of an unorthodox parent and believes the best way to teach his kids to survive in the wilderness is to completely immerse them in it. Subsequently, he moves his family into the wild where he can teach them how to live off the land and see the beauty of the natural world around them. He teaches his kids combat skills, survival skills and home schools them in academics.  After living in the wilderness for many years, their paradise gets threatened when they are forced to leave their Forrest and move back into the real world with the rest of society. Thus begins a fight that challenges him and threatens his unorthodox parenting style.

The website Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Steve Zahn (Dallas Buyers Club), Kathryn Hahn (Bad Words), Missi Pyle (Gone Girl), and Erin Moriarty (True Detective) have all joined the cast and that Entertainment One acquired the international rights to the film just a few days back.

The president of Entertainment One Films, Harold van Lier made the following statement regarding the project.

“This is a project we all fell in love with and was voted best script of 2014 by our distribution teams on the ground,” he also added  “It is a very original story, both funny and deeply emotional and a wonderful role for Viggo. I don’t think we have read anything like it since Little Miss Sunshine, but this is altogether very different.”

Those interested in working on the film can check out the below information for the open casting call. All extras cast for the project will be paid and they are requesting that those who attend, come dressed to impress in attire that is suitable for a funeral. They are looking for background actors that already have appropriate attire for the scene because they will be casting people on the spot.

The film will be directed by Matt Ross and the casting will be handled by  Angelique Midthunder with Erin O’Shaugnessy for Midthunder Casting, LLC.
