Alma: Female, Age 16-19, Latina, speaks Spanish/English
(Lead role) a 16 year-old about to start 11th grade. She is dynamic, smart, a “school-girl”, and a bit hard-edged (orphaned at an early age, she’s had to grow up fast to safeguard her 2 younger siblings.)
Basic kitchen skills are helpful, but not absolutely essential, as the character has a restaurant job, and will have to perform a few simple kitchen tasks on-camera.
Jorge: Male, Age 11-14, Latino
(co-lead) known to his friends as “Twitch”, he is quiet but intelligent and confident. He attends middle school but puts more effort into finding ways to make money, not necessarily legally.
Nilsen: Male, Age 16-20, Latino
(Supporting role) Jorge’s older brother, a young man who was involved in street life a few years ago and is now back in school and trying to stay straight. Handsome, charismatic, confident.
Teresa: Female, Age 38-45, Latina, speaks Spanish/English
(Supporting role) Works in costura factory by day, and roams the neighborhood on evenings and weekends looking for discarded objects of value to sell. She’s active, energetic, and strong-willed.
