Casting TV Pilot / Mockumentary “The Surreal World” in Toronto

The Surreal World

Location: Humber College, Toronto

Type: TV Pilots / Student Film Project

It’s a seven minute pilot for a school assignment – I have written the first act of a 30 minute sitcom.

It’s a mockumentary about the making of the first reality television show and how it quickly became the ridiculous medium that it is today. Think of “30Rock” meets “The Office (UK)”

I’m looking for actors that are comfortable with mild improv and understand how a mockumentary style show works.

It is a dry wit, physical and sarcastic humor.

It’s the 90s. Sharon and Barry are writers trying to shake things up a bit within the television industry. With a small crew, they want to group terrible actors together and place them in scripted, choreographed scenarios to capture their reality – with the intention of presenting it as genuine. Jenson Thomas, a former 1970s child star and the network appointed Producer, sees things a bit differently…

Jensen:
– Age 25- 35
– Burned out (doesn’t care about appearance)
– Lively
– Arrogant
– Know it all
– Rubs people the wrong way

Sharon:
– Early 20’s
– Confident
– Mom figure
– Very competent
– Aggravated by Jensen
– Messy/ disorganized person
– Functions well in organized chaos
– Unfashionable

Barry:
– Early 20’s
– Child like and playful
– Shy
– Excited to work with Jensen
– Sarcastic
– Short attention span
– Chubby (conscious about it)

Aaron:
– Early 20’s
– Wants to fit in
– Good terms with Barry and Sharon
– Organized
– Schedule oriented
– Oblivious to social cues
– Dressed professionally (business casual)
– Thinks that nobody likes him
