Tea at Four

CASTING
The lives of two women who have been partners since the 1940’s to the 1960’s.
Cast: Three Women
Catherine:
Age: late forties but must look somewhat ageless so that she can also portray her younger self.
Background: the wealthy daughter of Philadelphia Irish Catholic industrialists. Catherine was educated at Bryn Mawr College. She is most well-spoken. She is a teacher.
In the present (1960’s) Catherine is dealing with terminal cancer of the uterus to which
she succumbs at the end of the play.
Ruth:
Age: late forties but must look somewhat ageless so that she can also portray her younger self.
Background: Jewish girl from Brooklyn. She is the daughter of Orthodox Jews but has redetected her background. Ruth attended Hunter College, an institution intended for Jews because she was rejected from Bryn Mawr because of her religion. Ruth is completely devoted to Catherine to their last moment together.
Betsy:
Catherine’s niece. Young woman. Very Main Lines. She also plays the other characters.
Audition and Rehearsal space:
Auditions and rehearsals will be held at the Shipley Commons Black Box.
