Seeking black female (30+) for the role of Yuko in Pussy Willows, an experimental thesis film at Dodge College of Film and Media arts.
Yuko is a single mother who, following her husband’s death, spends every waking moment grappling with her debilitating grief. Her only consolation is her daughter Mia, who invests most of her time attempting to prevent Yuko’s routine suicide attempts. Yuko’s self-loathing and guilt toward burdening her daughter reach a breaking point, ultimately teaching her that genuine human connection is the only way to begin healing.
Must be able to cry on cue.
Pussy Willows is an experimental phantasmagoria of despair and elation. It’s a fast-paced, surreal exploration of the ways in which we combat anxiety and depression.
The story follows Mia, a morose teenager with a passion for vaudeville and the only black girl in her oppressively strict Catholic high school. After her father’s death, she must simultaneously care for her manic, suicidal mother and a robotic baby doll assigned to her as part of a home economics class. The stress of these tasks combined with her own emotional instability ultimately explode in an evening of alcohol, rage, and catharsis.
