Casting Call for “Dirty Dancing” Movie Remake in NC

Casting call for ABC’s “Dirty Dancing” – Call for dancers, musicians and background actors.

A new “Dirty Dancing” is in the works and there is a casting call out for dancers and extras who would like small roles in the project.

“Dirty Dancing” will be in production in the Asheville, North Carolina area and filming is expected to begin next month. Casting directors for the movie / mini-series are now accepting submissions from local talent who would like to be cast as extras and or dancers. There is a casting call out for musicians to fill some featured roles as well.  Currently, they are only seeking talent that are 18 years of age or older. The project is also looking for experienced dancers and people in the area with period cars ( 50s to 75) that may be used in the film.

The “Dirty Dancing” remake will actually be a 3 part mini-series. “Dirty Dancing” will air as an ABC special later this year. Debra Messing and “Star Wars” actor Billy Dee Williams are part of the upcoming cast. Also cast in the project are Abigail Breslin who plays Baby (Debra Messing will play her mother), Colt Prattes has the male lead of Johnny, Nicole Scherzinger is cast to play Penny, Sarah Hyland will play Baby’s sister, Lisa Houseman. According to CNN, The movie is produced by Lionsgate TV and Allison Shearmur Productions (“The Hunger Games”).  Eleanor Bergstein, who wrote the screenplay for the original “Dirty Dancing”  movie is also on-board as an executive producer. Grammy nominee Adam Anders and Peer Astrom (Glee) are in charge of the music in the ABC “Dirty Dancing” remake.  ABC has also enlisted Tony Award winner, Andy Blankenbuehler (“Hamilton,” “Bring It On”) to handle the choreography.

“Dirty Dancing” was a hit film some decades back. The movie starred  Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze. “Dirty Dancing” is set at a snobby summer resort in the Catskills. Baby, played by Jennifer Grey comes to the resort with her family for the summer. Baby is disappointed to find out that the family oriented resort is not what she would call fun. When she seems destined to have the most boring summer of her life, she meets Johnny, a dance instructor at the resort who shows her how the hired help at the resort live.  Baby quickly comes to realize that the other side of the fence is a lot more fun.  Johnny and Baby hit it off, fall in love and do a lot of Dirty Dancing.

This project is filming in the Asheville, North Carolina area and is only considering talent local to NC.

DIRTY DANCING SUBMISSION INFO For Extras, Period Cars and Dancers.

Will be needing band members but more details for that when I have them. Filming will take place in Asheville, NC and surrounding areas such as Hendersonville, Casheirs, Saluda etc..Anyone working as an Extra must be willing to work as a local in any area we are filming.

Filming will take place in April and May.
Submissions must include current photos (which can be taken with a cell phone).

FOR EXTRAS : Seeking Males and Females of all ethnic backgrounds 18 years of age and up for filming.

Please note very few children are needed for this film.

Seeking those that can portray 1963 Guest at Catskill Resort popular for UPSCALE JEWISH NEW YORKERS in 1963.
We are making another request due to this being a period film with very specific looks/needs we are seeking.

For additional guest at the moment – seeking those that are Jewish with a upscale 1960’s New York Look -meaning no beards for men, no long hair for men and so on. Please do not submit with heading Resort Request if you do not meet request. If you have already submitted to be an extra you do NOT need to resubmit. You are in the file and are still being considered for filming. Duplicate submissions will be deleted.
You can and should still submit (and we still need everyone of all types, ages, ethnicities, sizes and looks) but please do not use the REQUEST heading. Follow the guidelines for general submission.

FOR EXPERIENCED DANCERS – Adults of all ages MALES & Females.

HOWEVER – especially in need those of College Age (20’s -30’s) with much experience and available multiple days thru out filming. These folks will also be portraying staff at lodge. Seeking ALL ethnic backgrounds for Dancers. Should be experienced in dance moves /styles as seen in original movie.

Dirty Dancing Seeking Musicians to work as Featured Extras.

Featured extras/Musicians who can “finger sync” songs with the instruments listed below.

Need to be believable, good musicians — who also look the part! This film is set in 1963.
Please see the Bands listed below, ages and instruments they may need to play below.
Anyone submitting should have flexible schedules and be available multiple days if needed thru out filming. If you own instruments from 50’s -60’s that is a bonus but in no way required. However be sure to let us know if you do.
Must be able to work as a local in any area we may be filming on day needed (Asheville, Hendersonville, Saluda, Cashiers and so on).
