Actor Job Auditions in Memphis TN for Paid Educational Project

Standardized Patients ( Actors to portray patients)

Location: Memphis, TN

Type: Other Projects

The UTHSC Center for Healthcare Improvement and Patient Simulation (CHIPS) provides a safe learning environment in which future healthcare professionals and current practitioners can enhance their clinical and interpersonal skills. Standardized Patients/Simulated Patients (SPs) are individuals who can help provide direct, hands-on patient care experiences for these participants. Here is a link to a video to watch which demonstrates some of the most common roles of a SP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcc-vLLkHSc

Most learners at the UTHSC will have at least one opportunity to work with an SP. CHIPS will provide each SP with a case script in order to portray the patient. This script will include the patient’s medical and social history as well as demographic information. SPs must possess the ability to memorize key details of the case, remain in character, and give consistent responses for every learner encounter. SPs are an important part of the educational process, as they can give learners feedback from a patient’s perspective.

SPs may portray characters coming into a primary care setting (clinician’s office), an acute care setting (hospital), rehabilitation center, or home environment. Often, SPs adorn certain props (oxygen masks, rashes, skin tags, IV lines, crutches, Ace wraps) in order for the scenario to be more realistic.

Please be aware that events are generally Monday through Friday. Times for events are typically 7:30 am-12 pm, 12:15 pm-5 pm, or 7:30 am-5 pm.
SPs are considered Special Pay Employees at a rate of $16.50 per hour, including training time. It is important to note that SPs are recruited for events on an “as needed” basis with no guaranteed hours.

CHIPS is seeking dependable, reliable SPs. They are people from all walks of life who have a desire for a flexible work schedule, and are comfortable, after sufficient training, to portray a patient. No previous experience is required, however qualities of a great SP include: being reliable and punctual, having good memory and recall skills, possessing excellent communication and interpersonal skills, being able to work with others in a respectful manner, and being committed to the education of healthcare professionals
If you have a flexible schedule and the qualities above, please go to https://www.uthsc.edu/simulation/standardized-patient.php and click on the Standardized Patient Online Application Form. If you are selected to come in for an audition, you will receive an invitation via email. Audition dates will be January 9 and 10, 2018.
