When a shared library book they used to read as girls is 19 years overdue, Millie is forced to contact her childhood best friend, Jules.
The Adventures of… centers around Millie and Jules, two childhood best friends who have since grown apart. When Millie passes by the library they used to borrow books from as kids, she realizes their favorite book, The Adventures of Mary-Kate and Ashley: The Case of the Camp Caper, is 19 years overdue. Millie is forced to visit the now-pregnant Jules and embark on one last off-beat detective mission. — The film is explores the comfort and discomfort of aging, old friends and former selves. It is about running back into childhood when we are confronted with the realities of our newly adult lives, and the friendships we lose along the way.

About to leave town for a medical residency job, Millie is unsure of what’s next, and feels that her friend is moving on while she is still doing the crappy apartment thing. On the cusp of the reality of true adulthood and a little lonely, Millie is searching for a way to reconnect with her past and with Jules, who was like a sister. They’ve grown apart and lead different lives now – Millie pursuing Med school and Jules dropping out of her BA program to open a small store. Millie was always the organized, sensitive, pragmatic one, slightly up tight and timid, but armed with a truck load of ambition. She was the one that decided they should start their own detective agency as kids (based on “The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley” books). Once they become teenagers and then twenty-somethings, Millie was judgmental towards Jules, disliking her lame boyfriend, Gary, and the reckless way that Jules made decisions. Now Millie is forced to face a newer version of her friend, a put-together pregnant woman she doesn’t recognize, who is in control of her life. She has a hard time accepting the chaos of her own uncertain future, that people change (including herself) and that it’s okay to grow apart.
JULES [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 27-33]
Jules is seven months pregnant with her first child and lives with her boyfriend, Gary. She used to be a rebel-hearted mess, but has since become a more stable person and decided she wants to be a mom. She was the rambunctious hyper one, the one that would always get them in trouble and could make anyone laugh. Jules would sneak out of her house in her socks to run across the street to Millie’s parent’s house when they were kids, so that they could make up detective cases. Jules was the one with the big imagination. She’s crafted a quaint and happy life for herself, with new friends and new goals that Millie can’t relate to. Jules has no desire to reconnect. She accepts that they just grew apart and aren’t part of each other’s lives. When Millie shows up looking for the book, Jules decides to spend the day with her because of their old bond.
