CYT NYC Presents Annie

ANNIE (Strong Belt/Mix ­ A to high F): Age 11. Annie is a complex, tough, streetwise orphan who is surprisingly vulnerable when she thinks she might lose what has become most important to her: her newfound family. Spunky, friendly and big­voiced.

OLIVER WARBUCKS (Baritone ­ B to high G): A gruff, successful businessman with a warm heart. Rich, stiff­collared.

GRACE FARRELL (Soprano ­ B flat to high G): Faithful secretary to Mr. Oliver Warbucks. Poised, sweet, gentle.

MISS HANNIGAN (Alto ­ A to D): The orphanage matron who dislikes children. Disillusioned and bitter but comically larger than life. Brooklyn accent would be appropriate but not mandatory.

ROOSTER (Baritone ­ B to high G): Miss Hannigan’s no­good brother looking for a quick buck. A seedy, slick con man. Comedy role with Brooklyn accent.

LILY ST. REGIS (Soprano ­ B to high G): Rooster’s girlfriend, who is also out for a quick buck. She is a bit of an “airhead.” Shady and dishonest. Comedy role with Brooklyn accent.

ORPHANS: The other girls in the orphanage with Annie. These girls are gritty, neglected and
vulnerable, yet basically honest and potentially loveable.

LEAD ORPHANS (Must have the ability to have mischievous fun with one another):

-­MOLLY, age 6. Tiniest. Frightened at times (looks to Annie for mothering.)

-­KATE, age 7. Next smallest

-­TESSIE, age 10. Most emotional. Cries or laughs easily. Her phrase is “O, my goodness, O, my goodness.”

-PEPPER, age 12. Toughest. Stands up for herself and defends everyone.

-JULY, age 13. Quietest.

-DUFFY, age 13. Tallest, most mature.

-ADDITIONAL ORPHANS: Ages 8­12. All are spunky and courageous and dislike their life at the orphanage but make the best of it.

SERVANTS: The servants at the Warbucks mansion. Includes Drake (head butler), Mrs. Pugh (head cook), Mrs. Greer (head housekeeper), Cecille and Annette (French maids). All servants must be able to sing and move well.

FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT: The 32nd President of the United States. A friend of Warbucks. Wheelchair bound. Larger than life personality that imitates President Roosevelt’s voice and mannerisms.

CABINET MEMBERS (Hull, Howe, Perkins, Ickes, Morganthau): Strategic support to FDR who meet in the White House to discuss the country’s current crises and sing “Tomorrow”reprise.

BERT HEALY (Tenor ­ E to high G): The ultimate, big radio personality. Head of the Oxydent radio show. He’s a scene­stealer. Has to be number one. He helps Annie by broadcasting about the search for her birth parents and sings “Fully Dressed”.

BOYLAN SISTERS: Three sisters (Connie, Ronnie & Bonnie) that sing back up to Bert Healy. They love the spotlight. Big, bubbly personalities. Must be able to sing and harmonize well.

RADIO HOUR TEAM: Fred McCracken (Wacky’s ventriloquist), Wacky the doll, Jimmy Johnson, Sound Effects Man.

LT. WARD: An NYPD officer, suspicious of Annie when he sees her with Sandy, the dog.

BUNDLES MCCLOSKEY: The laundry man who aids Annie’s attempt to escape.

APPLE SELLER, EDDIE, SOPHIE: Unhappy and resentful inhabitants of Hooverville who interact with Annie when she visits their Shantytown. Brooklyn accents would be appropriate.

STAR TO BE: Aspiring, young Broadway actress who sings a solo during NYC number.

ENSEMBLE ROLES: New Yorkers, Hooverville Citizens

Students ages 8-18 in the Tri-State Area are invited to audition for CYT NYC’s 6th Annual full-scale musical production of “Annie.” Auditions will take place on April 18 & 21 in NYC.

All auditions will be held in NYC at First Baptist Church, 79th and Broadway.

-NYC resident auditions – April 18 at 4 pm. First-round callbacks from 7-9 pm.

-NJ resident auditions – April 21 at 10am.

-Callbacks for NJ and NYC – April 21 at 2 pm. By invitation only.

Students should prepare 1 minute of a song and bring a digital musical track to perform with. Please do not plan to sing a cappella (without a track). CYT will provide a speaker for playback. There will not be live accompaniment, but feel free to bring your own!

The show will perform six times from June 28 – July 1, 2018 at the Theatre at St. Jeans, an Off-Broadway Theatre located at 184 E. 76th St. at Lexington Ave, New York, NY. The production will be directed by CYT NYC’s Executive Director, Corrie Cooper.
