“Black Mass” with Johnny Depp Open Roles & General Extras Info

The new Johnny Depp film “Black Mass” will begin filming in Boston this summer.

CP casting is seeking to fill some very specific roles for Icelandic women in their late 40’s + who are also able to speak the language.  The films casting team is seeking women who are fluent in both English and Icelandic for featured roles in the film. The film will shoot in Boston, Massachusetts this spring and summer.

“Black Mass” is scheduled to begin production on May 19th and continue into July.

Johnny Depp will star in another gangster role. In “Black Mass” Depp will play the notorious Irish American mobster James “Whitey” Bulger.  Whitey just got caught in California not too long ago, after being on the run for a few decades.  In November of last year Whitey was sentenced to 2 life terms for 11 counts of murder and dozens of other charges.

Whitey was the inspiration for the Jack Nicholson character of Frank Costello in the Martin Scorsese film, “The Departed“. The film is inspired by “Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob“, a New York Times best seller.

The film is about John Connolly and James “Whitey” Bulger, childhood friends who went but would meet up again in the 1970’s after Whitey became a crime boss and Connelly joined the FBI.

In a recent interview, Johnny Depp talked about the upcoming film “Black Mass” and his role as the notorious gangster who spent decades on the FBI’s 10 most wanted list.

“The reason to play it is obvious to me,” said the three-time Oscar nominee. “He’s a fascinating character. I don’t think it’s like anything I’ve done before and I’m very excited to slide into that skin for a little bit.”
