That’s right, “MacGyver” is coming back to TV.
The TV remake of “Macgyver” is now in production in the Atlanta area and Central is looking for locals who would love to work as paid background actors, stand-ins, featured extras and photo doubles on the upcoming CBS show. Those interested in working on the show may come into the Central offices to register or follow the directions below.
The action packed story is getting a modern spin and Atlanta locals have a chance to be a part of it. The upcoming CBS show is planning on a fall 2016 premiere and those episodes are now filming. The show will be filming in Atlanta beginning this July and season 1 will film all the way into December of 2016.
The original MacGyver series was created by Lee David Zlotoff. Henry Winkler and John Rich executive produced the show which aired on ABC from the mid 80s (1985) to the early 90s(1992). The show focused on secret agent Angus MacGyver ( Richard Dean Anderson). MacGyver sported an 80s mullet and worked as an agent for a fictional United States government agency, the Department of External Services (which will be making a come back in the remake). A scientist who ended up serving in the Vietnam war, MacGyver always tried to find non-lethal resolutions for his non stop, explosive, problems. Yep, MacGyver is definitely the man with the plan and the innovation to make it work with just about anything on hand.
The new version of MacGyver will star Lucas Till as Angus MacGyver, the man who can save the world using noting more than toothpicks and scotch tape. While CBS did get rid of MacGyvers mullet, Lucas does sport longish hair in the trailer released by CBS.
According to the show’s IMDB page, CBS’s “MacGyver” is a re-imagining of the classic series, is an action-adventure drama about 20-something Angus “Mac” MacGyver who creates a clandestine organization within the U.S. government where he uses his extraordinary talent for unconventional problem solving and vast scientific knowledge to save lives. Joining his team on high-risk missions around the globe is maverick former CIA agent Jack Dalton. Under the aegis of the Department of External Services, MacGyver takes on the responsibility of saving the world, armed to the teeth with resourcefulness and little more than bubble gum and a paper clip.
According to a Deadline story, this is actually the second version of “MacGyver” that was created for the network. Seems that the original pilot was trashed and CBS wanted a new script and a new take on the story… which they got from Hawaii Five-0’s Peter Lenkov. Following the original pilot the show got a new cast with only lead Lucas Till and co-star George Eads remaining.
NEW PROJECT – MACGYVER
We are beginning prep shortly on the new CBS series, MacGyver! This will begin shooting throughout the Atlanta area in July through December.
