A Sleep Experiment (Short)
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Type: Student Films
This is a Casting Call for “A Sleep Experiment”
(Experimental/thriller/horror; approx. 5 minutes)
Jim is participating in a research experiment on the effects of sleep deprivation, and has not slept in 15 days. Being stuck in a single room with only a metal chair and intercom, he wrestles with a voice on the intercom as well as with his own auditory and visual hallucinations.
This is a casting call for:
Lead (and only on-screen) role:
JIM (25-35) — Normal build, preferably on the thinner side. No exceptional or unique characteristics, just a normal guy (tattoo’s are fine).
Jim’s backstory and personality traits will be primarily at the discretion of the selected actor, with assistance from the director. Whoever Jim was when he entered the room, ceases to exist at the 15 day mark. It will play an integral part in the role, while the script serves as a guideline.
**For this role, actors should submit a pre-recorded monologue (of their choosing) and any reels or previous work, if available.
VOICE (35-55) — A deep, somber voice that speaks to Jim through an intercom, administering various questions during the experiment. The voice has a soothing quality, but has an extremely sinister undertone (think of HAL 9000).
**This role is entirely off screen, so the selected actor will not be required to be on set during production. Instead, a single voice recording session will take place on the Drexel University campus in University City.
**Actors should submit a monologue and any reels or previous work, if available.
The shoot will take place 1-2 days in August, specific dates to come very soon.
It will take place on the Drexel University campus.
Food will be provided and transportation costs will be compensated for (if necessary)
