Actors must prepare a 1-2 minute dramatic monologue for auditions.

After a car accident leaves her mother hospitalized, a young poet learns about her family’s history and is inspired to continue in her ambitions for college and her dreams as a respected writer.
17, recent high school graduate who emerges herself in a world of poetry to keep from the pressures of her reality. Imaginative, procrastinator, and respectful to others. Loses self confidence and seeks support and wisdom from her uncle after her mother is hospitalized.
Physical Description: Black, brown/dark-brown complexion. May be older or younger.
UNCLE ERNIE (lead)
mid-late 50′s retired English professor and widow. Articulate, wise, well-mannered, seasoned man of recognition. Has a passion for reading and writing. Loving, loyal, and resentful of his previous devotion to career over family. Becomes a mentor and father figure to his niece.
Physical Description: Black, 5’8 or taller, may be younger but needs to have mature demeanor of late 50s.
47, Single parent mother to Faith. Stern but caring, understanding, and supportive of her daughter’s dreams. Lost her beloved husband due to heart failure. After a car accident becomes hospitalized.
Physical Description: Black, brown/dark-brown complexion. May be younger or older.
29, daughter of Uncle Ernie and mother of one. Dwells on the past, spiteful, but shows concern of her loved ones. Coping from a hurtful past with her father.
