GUEST EXPERIENCE SUMMER ACTORS-Open Call Auditions

The not-for-profit Monterey Bay Aquarium opened in 1984, and has earned a reputation for being among the world’s finest. Located on Monterey’s historic Cannery Row and featuring exhibitions that focus on Monterey Bay’s diverse habitats and wildlife, it attracts between 1.7 and 2.4 million visitors each year. The institution’s mission is to inspire conservation of the oceans, both through exhibits and through conservation research and advocacy in such areas as sea otters, open-ocean fishes research, marine protected areas, fisheries health and others. More than 80,000 schoolchildren take advantage of the aquarium’s free education programs and tours every year.
The GE Summer Actor will perform in musical theatre productions in outdoor amphitheatre setting, and will also perform various other theatrical interpretation throughout the Aquarium. The ideal candidate will learn and deliver scripted performance, will operate technical equipment for performance sound and sound track, work with Guest Experience Programs staff for the maintenance of costumes and props and work in large costumes.
This position requires theater/acting experience and the ability to learn and perform vocal music. Additionally the actor should have the ability to learn and deliver a small amount of Spanish words and phrases and be able to operate technical systems (wireless microphones and IPOD).

-Short one-two minute modern, comedic monologue
-16 bars of two contrasting songs (one uptempo, one ballad) showing vocal range
We will also be holding open call auditions on Wednesday 4/7/10 6:30-9:30pm and Saturday 4/10/10 2:00-5:00pm. Please meet in front of the Aquarium Logo at the Monterey Bay Aquarium at 6:15 Wednesday night or 1:45 Saturday afternoon. Please be on time as someone will meet you there to escort you to the audition.
