Actors’ Repertory Theatre of Simi is casting Ragtime, the Musical with book by Terrence McNally, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and music by Stephen Flaherty, based on the 1975 novel by E. L. Doctorow. This production will open at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, 3050 Los Angeles Avenue, Simi Valley, CA 93065 on July 23 and perform Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm through August 28.
AVAILABLE ROLES: COALHOUSE WALKER, JR: (Baritone, intense dance). Star pianist, proud, confident, stubborn; BOOKER T. WASHINGTON (Baritone) Civil rights pioneer; EVELYN NESBITT: (Soprano, intense dance) Sexy starlet loved by all men; FATHER: (Baritone) Traditional, cautious, resistant to change; GRANDFATHER: (Baritone) Very outspoken; HARRY HOUDINI: (Tenor ) World famous magician; LITTLE BOY: (Tenor) Mother and Father’s son, precocious, observant and curious; LITTLE GIRL: (Soprano) Tateh’s daughter, quiet and shy; SARAH: (Alto) Mother of Coalhouse’s child. Despondent, discouraged; WILLIE CONKLIN: (Tenor) New Rochelle’s fire chief. Obnoxious and cruel; YOUNGER BROTHER: (Baritone) Mother’s brother, an anarchist who is in love with Evelyn Nesbitt; HENRY FORD: (Baritone) Founder of the Ford motor company; J.P. MORGAN: (Baritone) Banking mogul. PLUS additional supporting roles, and a large, multi-ethic singing/dancing ensemble to play New Rochelians, Immigrants and Harlemites.
Auditions are by appointment only and will be held on Monday and Tuesday, May 23 and 24 between 7-10pm at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, 3050 Los Angeles Avenue, Simi Valley, CA 93065. Please bring prepared sheet music of a similar genre in your key, an accompanist will be provided. Callbacks are on Sunday, May 29 from 12-4pm at the same location.
