L.A. Area Casting Call for classic sketch comedy/play “The Colored Museum”

The Colored Museum

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Type: Theater

J.Raul Productions is putting a modern twist to a classic sketch comedy/play The Colored Museum. This play is both education and entertaining. It speaks on issues we African Americans have been faced with since the beginning of slavery.

I am looking for two African American/Black women ages 18-26 or who can portray that criteria. The Colored Museum is a sketch comedy. Originally it is a cast of 5 (2 men; 3 women) portraying about 20 characters. However my rendition of this production will be a cast of 3 (1 man; 2 women). The Colored Museum has about 8-11 scenes which are presented as if their own individual plays. Each skit is it’s own metaphor of what we as “Afro-Americans” go through. Although the play was written and set in the late 60’s, it deals with issues that are still relevant today.

Such as the battle of “good” and “bad” hair, selling your soul for fame and even the age old tale of growing up and “throwing away” your black memorabilia. Come dressed comfortable in all black or dark clothing. Note: Take into consideration that you will be filmed so come with that in mind. During you audition do not wear any lose or hanging jewelery (i.e. chains, necklaces, large earrings, etc.) Also (unless studs) no lip, nose, tongue or any other facial piercings. No baggy clothes and no sweaters or sweatshirts hanging from body. Please wear either heels (not high), sneakers or flats; no flip flops. Lastly, hair must be tied up and pulled out of face and off of your shoulders.

Remember to have FUN!
