Twists and Turns: A Modern Odyssey is a one act drama/tragedy inspired by Homer’s Odyssey. At it’s core, the Odyssey is a story about a man who returns from war, haunted by memories of his time in battle and mysterious domineering voices (he believes these to be the voices of the gods).
It is also about the grief-stricken wife he left behind who believes him to be dead and the infant he leaves to grow up without a father. In this play, this same essential story is extrapolated, stripped of the mythology, and set against a modern backdrop. The voices of the “gods” become the voices of Odysseus’s post-traumatic stress disorder. His odyssey comes to mean not only his journey physically home to his family, but also the emotional journeys of every character and their collective struggle in a chaotic and war-torn world. All profits from the production will go to benefit the PTSD Foundation of America, which provides aid to American combat veterans struggling with PTSD and their families.
