Located in Virginia Beach, Tidewater Stage is the professional theatre company of Regent University. Seeking non-union talent for I DO! I DO! by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt. I DO! I DO! is a two-person musical following one couple through fifty roller coaster years of marriage.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
Both characters age fifty years over the course of the musical. Given this wide age range, actors in their 30’s to 50’s will be considered. Ability to play life experiences across the age continuum is more important than biological age. Seeking strong actors with impeccable comic timing, dynamic singing voices and basic dance ability; charismatic performers capable of carrying a two-person musical.
MICHAEL: An occasionally overbearing, vaguely chauvinistic writer. An egotist who adores his wife, Agnes.
AGNES: Soft but independent woman, the romantic yet practical wife of Michael. She can hold her own.
AUDITION INFORMATION
General auditions will be held on Saturday, April 4 from 2-5 pm. Callbacks are tentatively scheduled for
Saturday, April 11, although it’s possible actors may be asked to read cold from the script at the generals. Auditions will be held in the Studio Theatre in Regent University’s Performing Arts Center in Virginia Beach (corner of Centerville Turnpike and CBN Center Drive). Eric Harrell, Producing Artistic Director, will be casting.
COMPENSATION
Performance stipends will be approximately $1,200. Housing available for out-of-town talent.
PRODUCTION DATES
I DO! I DO! will rehearse May 25-June 18; performances run June 19-28. Rehearsals will use a combination of day and evening hours.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Comic monologue not to exceed 1.5 minutes. Additional 30 seconds to perform a musical selection appropriate to the style of I DO! I DO! Singing from the show is encouraged but not required. Accompanist provided. Please bring sheet music in correct key.
