Wicked Lit 2016: Anansi and the Demons

Seeking participants for Wicked Lit 2016, a site-specific theater event staged in a working cemetery. The show will consist of “Anansi and the Demons” (Jonathan Josephson, writer; Jaime Robledo, dir.); as well as “The Shadowy Third” (Paul Millet, writer; Bruce Gray, dir.) and “From Beyond” (Trey Nichols, writer; Jeff G. Rack, dir.).
OPEN ROLES:
Kwaku Anansi (‘Anansi and the Demons’) (Lead): Males & Females, 18+
the spider; a wise, rascally storyteller; movement background important.
Ethnicity: African American, African Descent
Pak Kenwe (‘Anansi and the Demons’) (Supporting): Male, 25-35
a young villager; enthusiastic, but also sly; movement background important.
Ethnicity: African American, African Descent
Mmotia, A Demon (‘Anansi and the Demons’) (Lead): Female, 18+
a sinister, mischievous fairy with backwards feet. Will also play the villager Mmoboro. Movement experience required; puppetry experience a big plus.

Obayifo, A Demon (‘Anansi and the Demons’) (Supporting): Males & Females, 18+
a dark shapeshifter. Will also play the villager Onini. Movement experience required; puppetry experience a big plus.

Asasabonsam, A Demon (‘Anansi and the Demons’) (Supporting): Males & Females, 18+
an enormous, blood-sucking monster with huge wings and hooked iron feet. Will also play the villager Twiga. Movement experience required; puppetry experience a big plus.

Rehearsals begin Aug. 20 and will consist of weekend mornings and some weeknights through Sept. 30; runs Oct. 1-Nov. 12 at Mountain View Mausoleum & Cemetery, 2300 N. Marengo Ave. Altadena, CA.
Pays: $300 rehearsal stipend plus $35/performance night.
