Casting “Nankunda” a dance show telling the story of a boy captured by the child army in Uganda and the sacrifice his mother makes to protect him.
Rehearses in Los Angeles, CA on Saturdays. Performances will be sometime around August.
Seeking Talent:
Choreographers: (Males & Females, ages 15+, All Ethnicities)
Seeking choreographers with experience in contemporary, hip hop, jazz, modern, ballet, partnering, circus, and tumbling. Choreography must be a powerful storytelling piece.
Taban: (Lead) Male, ages 15-25, All Ethnicities
Seeking strong contemporary, jazz, and hip hop skills. Must have a strong ability to tell a story through dance. This is a very emotional role. Must be able to start as a young and excited boy that grows and matures through heavy trials. Partnering experience and tumbling are pluses. Looking for a more ethnic candidate, African America is good, but open to all.
Nankunda: (Lead) Female, ages 25-45, All Ethnicities
Taban’s mother. Must be able to play a mature role and carry self with the grace and strength of a mother. Strong contemporary, ballet, or modern skills are required as well as strong partnering skills. Must be able to play a very emotional role. Looking for a more ethnic candidate, African America is good, but open to all.
Sebowa: (Lead) Male, ages 15-25, All Ethnicities
Taban’s friend. Strong hip hop skills required. Experience in other dance styles are good. Must be able to carry a trouble maker spirit that turns into an evil presence.
Sarah: (Supporting) Female, ages 15-25, All Ethnicities
Taban’s love interest. Strong contemporary, hip hop and partnering skills. may do some ensemble work as well.
Musoke: (Supporting) Male, ages 15-25, All Ethnicities
Taban’s friend. Must have strong hip hop skills and be able to create a fun atmosphere. Will be doing ensemble work as well.
Dancers: (Chorus / Ensemble) Males & Females, ages 12-40, All Ethnicities
Looking for dancers with strong technique in contemporary, hip hop, ballet, modern, jazz, tumbling, and circus. Partnering experience is a plus. Exposure to Uganda (or African) culture is even better.
Narrator: ages 18+, All Ethnicities
Seeking a great story telling voice to narrate the story.
