Open Casting Call in NYC for James Franco’s “The Deuce”

NYC area casting directors are holding an open call for the upcoming HBO TV show “The Deuce”

The HBO project is filming in the NYC area and is in need of lots of people who can rock a 70s look. NYC’s GWC is looking for locals who would like to work as paid background talent. The series is set in 1971 and needs Men to portray 1971 NYC Homeless looking types. The show’s casting team is especially interested in men with shaggy/longer hair.

David Simon is helming the upcoming series. According to Variety, Simon co-wrote the drama with George Pelecanos.  Simon and Pelicanos are also named as executive producers along with  Nina Noble (“The Wire,” “Treme”) and Richard Price. The TV pilot was directed by “Breaking Bad’s” Michelle MacLaren.

The Deuce” will star James Franco and Maggie Maggie Gyllenhaal.  The NYC set show tells the story of of the rapid rise of the porn industry in New York city during the 70s. “The Deuce” is inspired by the careers of twin brothers, Vincent Martino and Frankie Martino who entered the lucrative, fledgling porn industry following its legalization in the 1970s.  The show focuses on New York City’s Times Square where the brothers were active and subsequently became fronts for the mob. HBO’s “The Deuce” will explore the rough-and-tumble world that existed there until the rise of HIV and the cocaine epidemic that gave rise to violence and turbulence.

James Franco stars in HBO The Deuce

Franco will actually be playing both twins in the show. Maggie Gyllenhaal plays “Candy”, an ex hooker who gets sucked into the emerging industry.  Also starring in the show are Gary Carr, Margarita Levieva, Lawrence Gilliard Jr., Emily Meade and Dominique Fishback.  HBO has not yet announced a release date for the show but IMDB reports that the series will premiere sometime in 2017.
