“Vikings” season 5 is now casting.
There are 2 open casting calls coming up in Dublin and Wicklow, where the show films. As before, the show needs lots of background extras.
History Channel has renewed “Vikings” for a 5th season to premiere in 2017. The network has ordered 20 episodes for the period drama which will begin filming around the Dublin and Wicklow areas this coming summer. In addition, Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors) has joined the Season 5 cast. Details of his role are being kept under wraps for now. The visually stunning series is created by Michael Hirst (The Tudors). “Vikings” is set in the dark ages and tells the story of Ragnar Lothbrok and his family.
Ragnar Lodbrok or Lothbrok was a legendary Viking raider and ruler whose adventures where described in Norse poetry of those ages. Legend has it that he traveled to what is modern England today and further. He is said to have fathered quite a few sons who became legends in their own right as well, most notably, the Viking warriors & explorers Björn Ironside, Ivar the Boneless and Ubba. Hirst’s “Viking” series follows their adventures with a mix of historical events, Norse mythology and fictional flair.
Hirst also serves as the show’s executive producer. The show has announced that for season 5, they will be adding Jonathan Rhys Meyers to the cast. Meyers starred in Hirst’s “The Tudors.” The show has been pretty hush hush about the role that Meyers will be taking on leaving many fans wondering about whether Meyers will be playing one of Ragnar’s grown sons or a new character completely. Since Ragnar historically dies in England, fans are also wondering if Travis Fimmel, the actor who plays Ragnar will be returning… especially following the huge time jump of this season’s mid-season finale. The show has already announced that Clive Standen, the actor who plays Rollo, will not be part of the upcoming season. All in all, Vikings has been a solid show for History channel.
