“A Play About Drew Carey” Holding Auditions for Actors in NYC

A Play About Drew Carey

Location: New York, NY (exact location TBD)

Type: Theater

A PLAY ABOUT DREW CAREY is a new play by Philip Santos Schaffer that uses television star and iconic pasty-man Drew Carey as a jumping off point for discussing popular culture, the power of laughter, and the playwright’s mother.

WalkUpArts held a workshop and staged reading for A PLAY ABOUT DREW CAREY earlier this month and we can’t wait to start rehearsing for its first full production (tentatively scheduled for early December 2016). We are looking to build a cast of nine performers who can make us laugh and work well as an ensemble. The piece is teamwork heavy, so playing well with others is key. There are many scenes in the play which require improvisation, pulling games directly from the show Whose Line Is It Anyway, so we are hoping to find actors with great timing and/or formal improv training. The first three weeks of rehearsal will be focused on building an improv team from the ground up before we begin scene work.

AUDITIONS will be held on Monday, 10/3 from 3 to 7pm, exact location TBD
Please prepare a comedic monologue or brief piece of stand-up, preferably kept under 3 minutes. Be aware that the audition will happen in two parts. You will be given a half hour time slot with up to 7 other people. The first 15 min will involve improvisation exercises or physical theater games, and the second 15 minutes will be designated to seeing your monologues individually.

CALLBACKS will be held on Friday, 10/7, exact time and location TBD

If you are interested in auditioning, please let us know by Friday 9/30. Time slots on 10/3 will be by appointment only, so if you have any conflicts on that date, we will try to accommodate.
