When CB’s dog dies from rabies, CB begins to question the existence of an afterlife. His best friend is too burnt out to provide any coherent speculation; his sister has gone goth; his ex-girlfriend has recently been institutionalized; and his other friends are too inebriated to give him any sort of solace. But a chance meeting with an artistic kid, the target of this group’s bullying, offers CB a peace of mind and sets in motion a friendship that will push teen angst to the very limits.

“HAMLET” by William Shakespeare

Seaside Stage Society brings Shakespeare’s classic tragedy, HAMLET, to their ever-popular August Shakespeare in the Park. This adaptation will retain the Bard’s language, but reset in the Vietnam War era of the late 1960s-early 1970s. When Hamlet is sent home from college after a semester of protesting the war to his mother and straitlaced new stepfather / uncle, his world is turned upside down as he realizes that peace, justice, and love aren’t always what they seem to be, and there’s deadly secrets hiding around every corner.

Please prepare a 1-2 minute contemporary monologue if you wish to be considered for “DOG SEES GOD”, and a 1-2 minute classical monologues if you wish to be considered for “HAMLET”. Monologues from “HAMLET” are provided on this page if you choose to memorize one of those, although we STRONGLY encourage actors to select audition materials from shows other than the ones casting. All audition materials must be memorized, and if you wish to be considered for both shows, you must prepare both a contemporary AND a classical monologue. Actors may choose to audition for one or both shows. Because of mature content, only actors ages 18+ will be considered for roles in “DOG SEES GOD”. Actors ages 16+ will be considered for roles in “HAMLET”. No experience necessary – we welcome actors of all backgrounds and levels of experience!
Callbacks for both shows will be held by invitation only at Trinity Church from 4-9 PM on Tuesday, May 22nd. A copy of the rehearsal and performance schedule will be provided for actors at the audition. Please come prepared to write down any conflicts you may have with the proposed rehearsal dates.
