Seeking Male and Female Indian-American Actor/Singers

Type: Theater

Auditions for The Secret Garden, the Tony Award-winning musical based on the beloved Frances Hodgson Burnett classic, will be held, by appointment, on Monday, March 26th, and Tuesday, March 27th, beginning at 6:30 pm.

Auditions will be held at PM&L Theatre’s Tribute Hall, located at 877 Main Street in Antioch, IL.

The director, Rebecca Zellar (recent directing credits include A Christmas Carol and Songs for a New World), is looking to cast 2 children to play Mary Lennox and Colin Craven (stage ages 10-11), up to 10 actors identifying as male, ages 15 and up, and 9 actors identifying as female (ages 18 and up). Auditioners should prepare and memorize a 32 bar vocal selection in the style of the musical. All roles require singing and actors must be prepared to move. All ethnicities are encouraged to audition. An accompanist will be available.

The Secret Garden, with script and lyrics by Marsha Norman and music by Lucy Simon, tells the enchanting story of quick-tempered and lonely Mary Lennox, who is orphaned in India by a cholera outbreak, and sent to live with her widowed Uncle Archibald in his Yorkshire, England manor. During her stay, the living inhabitants are haunted by ghosts from the past and Mary discovers her bedridden cousin, Colin, and a mysterious locked garden. Through the course of the musical, Mary discovers, tends, and regrows the secret garden, and finds that, in turn, caring for the garden, along with the help of her friends and family, helps restore companionship and love to the household.

The Secret Garden opens on Friday, June 29 and will run Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays until Sunday, July 15th.

  1. Akshita joshi

Me and my 2 sisters are very much fascinated with acting and want to be actresses. 2 sisters are also good at singing English songs so if we can get a chance to be part of any of these great shows, it will be really great.
