Disruptive Divinity Productions is holding auditions via video submission or online video platform (Skype etc.) for its production of working title: “Sacrificial Mermaid(s),” for the Toronto Fringe Festival 2019.
Seeking: Child Actress, age 5-8
ROLE : CAROLINE, precocious daughter. It is unclear whether she is a ghost or not.
STIPEND: $150 stipend.
PERFORMANCE DATES:
Toronto Fringe Festival
7 performances within July 3 – 14, 2019.
Duration: 60 minutes.
SUBMISSION:
Disruptive Divinity will be accepting headshots/resumes until mid-April. Requests to audition via video platform will be extended shortly after.
REHEARSAL:
As production crew is Boston/NYC based, rehearsals with full cast will not take place until beginning of June. However, script and production information will be given ahead of time and skype sessions as needed. Partial cast: Mom/Nanny will start rehearsal in April/May.
PREMISE:
A psychological thrill twist inspired by the biblical story: The sacrifice of Isaac.
A recently separated mother –hires a new nanny for her 5 year old daughter. The relationship between Mother/daughter and Mother/nanny is oddly cold and detached. The reasons slowly unravel alluding to the mother’s sacrifice via drowning of daughter (and possibly nanny) as means of spite towards her ex-wife.
NOTES:
+No violence is physically depicted.
+CAROLINE is physically present on stage in 1st half of piece.
+ This piece depicts several Jewish rituals (reworked so that not entire prayers are said etc.) including: Shabbat dinner and bedtime Shema.
