A new season of Genius is now filming in the Atlanta area and the show has a casting call out for extras to be in the 2020 season of the show which will feature Aretha Franklin.
There are other Aretha Franklin projects in the works as well. Genius on National Geographic features different historical characters on each season of the show. Seasons one and two of genius featured Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso.
Cynthia Erivo stars as the Queen of Soul in the new Nat Geo TV show, Genius Aretha. Cynthia Erivo won a Tony for her role in the Broadway production of The Color Purple. She is also starring in another biography based project, Harriet, in which she is playing Harriet Tubman.
Genius: Aretha is an upcoming bio-series which is a project by National Geographic and Fox 21 Television Studios. The show is in the form of an 8 part mini series which also stars Courtney B. Vance as C.L. Franklin. According to Deadline, the rest of the cast and characters include David Cross playing Jerry Wexler, Malcolm Barrett as Ted White, Patrice Covington as Erma Franklin, Kimberly Hébert Gregory as Ruth Bowen, Rebecca Naomi Jones as Carolyn Franklin, and Sanai Victoria as Little Re. The 8 part series will follow Aretha’s life from her early days in gospel all the way through to her super stardom and her current title as the Queen of Soul.
Genius: Aretha will premiere on on National Geographic in May 2020, will be the first authorized scripted series about Aretha Franklin.

UPSCALE DINNER PARTY GUESTS: Male and Female who portray as African American, age range 30s-60s, clean-cut, conservative, upscale. These are the upper class elite. Men: short natural colored hair that would be period appropriate for 1940s or willing to let us cut your hair (No locs/braids/twists, NO shaved heads) and NO facial hair other than possibly a small tidy mustache (NO goatees/beards at all so MUST be willing to shave). Ladies: Natural hair color only, NO locs/braids/twists, hair able to be put in rollers or pin curls. Natural nails only-NO acrylic or SNS, no coffin/stiletto/square shaped nails or color. This scene takes place in the 1940s so no modern looks.
