Online workshop performance of Big Boy Leaves Home: A Ten Minute adaptation of the Richard Wright short story

Black actor, M, young (14-22). The role is Big Boy, of Richard Wright’s short story Big Boy Leaves Home.

The Mile High MFA Creative Writing Program in Denver, CO produces directed readings remotely for the benefit of emerging playwrights, and to community-build among developing playwrights and actors. One of Mile High’s current playwrighting/screenwriting students is following in the footsteps of Spike Lee, but is also exploring adaptation of works by Black authors for the stage. This adaptation is a ten minute play.

Rehearsals and conversation with the playwright will occur on the same day as the webinar/performance, on a Friday or Saturday in June, 2021 (actor, director and playwright availability will determine). Rehearsal will be from 2:00-4:30 Mountain Time, with the workshop performance for an invited audience later that same evening.

Time commitment: 3 hours. Pay: Stipend of $100.
