It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play is based on the classic holiday movie with a clever twist thrown in: the story is staged as a live radio broadcast. Actors portray numerous characters, and sound effects are done through Foley artists. It’s a Wonderful Life is about the life of George Bailey, a generous and well-meaning man who has become too downcast and tired to continue living. It will take help from a lovable angel to show George what life would be like if he wasn’t born for George to have a change of heart and understand the true spirit of the holidays.
Suggested Roles (we are permitted to add roles depending on the turnout)
JAKE LAURENTS – a good-looking, charismatic, all-American good-guy. Plays George Bailey (portrayed by James Stewart in the film version)
FREDDIE FILMORE – excellent character actor, full of charm, the emcee of the evening’s presentation, well-polished, self-assured with a bit of an ego.
HARRY “JAZZBO” HEYWOOD – great physicality, technical and detailed but with an exceptional sense of the ironies of life. A former minstrel show vaudevillian who left the circuit to perform in radio.
SALLY APPLEWHITE – attractive, sweet, all-american girl next door. Plays Mary Hatch Bailey (portrayed by Donna Reed in the film version)
LANA SHERWOOD- sassy and precocious, an experienced theater actress, has heard and seen it all. She won’t accept flowers unless there’s also jewelry in the box, but inside that outer hard core, there’s a heart of gold.
FOLEY OPERATOR- Must be able to create (as indicated in the script) all of the live sound effects that are present during the production. Great stage presence, improvisation and comedy skills a plus.
Payment: Non Paid
City or Location of call: Philadelphia, PA.
