This show is the debut production of Strongbox Theater which is in the design and construction phases of a brick and mortar venue located in East Rockaway, Long Island. Our mission is to build a new audience of theater goers for straight plays as a commercial, independent theater. We hope to get a jump start on that objective by offering this show free to the public.
BREAKDOWN
Seeking actors for an upcoming outdoor production of “The 39 Steps” to be rehearsed and performed in East Rockaway, Long Island this summer.
Looking for actors willing to work collaboratively and who have a history in sketch or physical comedy. Experience with characters, improv, clowning, foley, accents, or puppetry is a plus but we welcome actors of all experiences to submit!
All the roles in the play are performed by four actors. One plays Richard Hannay; one plays the three women in the play; and two “clowns” play every other character, including heroes, villains, men, women, children, and even the occasional inanimate object. We are also seeking two performers to create onstage foley and other effects.
AUDITIONS AND PERFORMANCES
Initial auditions will be held virtually via self tape with masked and in-person callbacks happening in East Rockaway, Long Island on Saturday, May 15th.
Rehearsals will start in June with performances starting July 8th and running weekends until August.
Actors who can sing, play an instrument, or have experience with foley, accents or clowning are strongly encouraged to apply.
Actors of all ages, genders, ethnicities, and abilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
We would love for you to prepare two high-energy comedic monologues, with as great a contrast in character as possible, no longer than 2.5 minutes total in length. Please do at least one of these monologues in an accent of your choosing.
If you are a singer or play an instrument, please also submit a video of you performing anything you like!
