Auditions in Brooklyn New York for “It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” – The Heights Players

Open Call In Person Auditions – It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play.
Mon. & Tues. Oct. 9 & 10 at 7pm.

Adapted by Joe Landry, Based on the story “The Greatest Gift” by Philip Van Doren Stern, Directed by James Martinelli.
Performances: Dec. 1st-10th: Fri. & Sat. 8pm & Sundays 2pm (+2nd Saturday @ 2pm).

You will be asked to read from the script and sing a short “jingle,” which will be provided at the audition. All roles are open to actors of all ages, gender identities, race.?

The Heights Players is a membership organization. There is no pay or stipend for any role or position. There is a $20 membership fee if cast.

 

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

We may also cast understudies for some roles. The following nine actors play all the characters (and many of the sounds) in the play:

  • Jake Laurents, Male, 20s/30s – Plays George Bailey/Young George. George is a typical American dreamer.
  • Freddie Filmore aka Announcer, Male, 30s–60s – Vaudeville Type, Plays Announcer, Mr. Gower, Henry F. Potter, Uncle Billy Bailey, Ernie, Peter Bailey, Old Man Collins, Ed, Man (at Martini’s),
  • Nick, Bridge Keeper, Binky, Pete Bailey (child), Cop
  • Harry “Jazzbo” Heywood, Male 30s/40s – must be able to do an Irish brogue and an Italian accent. Plays Harry Bailey/Young Harry, Bert The Cop, Clarence Oddbody, As-2, Sam Wainwright, Dr. Campbell, Man2, Charlie, Horace the Bank Teller, Tommy Bailey (child), Mr. Welch, Mr. Giuseppe Martini, Sheriff
  • Sally Applewhite, Female 20s/30s – Plays Mary Hatch Bailey/Young Mary
  • Lana Sherwood, Female 30s/40s – Plays Violet Bick/Young Violet, Matilda, Ruth Dakin Bailey, Rose Bailey, Mrs. Hatch, Mrs. Thompson, Schultz, Janie Bailey (child), Zuzu Bailey (child), Sadie Vance, Woman
  • Joseph, Male 45-60. Joseph is the Superintendent of Angels.

Foley Artists/Stage Manager (2 actors): Talented Foley artists are needed on set creating sound effects. One of the Foley artists will double in the role of the radio play’s stage manager. (You will not stage manage this actual production, the stage manager is a role.)
