Holding auditions for their Fall 2023 main stage production of Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward.
Copake Grange Hall, also known as Copake Grange #935, is a historic Grange hall located at Copake in Columbia County, New York, U.S.A. It was built in 1902-1903, with additions in 1906 and 1921.
“Blithe Spirit” is a timeless comedic play written by the renowned British playwright Noel Coward. First performed in 1941, the play has since become one of Coward’s most popular and enduring works. Set in the 1930s, “Blithe Spirit” tells the story of Charles Condomine, a skeptical writer who invites a medium, Madame Arcati, to conduct a séance at his home in order to gather material for his next book. Unexpectedly, Madame Arcati inadvertently summons the spirit of Charles’s deceased first wife, Elvira. Chaos ensues as Elvira’s mischievous spirit wreaks havoc on Charles’s life, causing comedic misunderstandings and romantic entanglements. Filled with witty dialogue, clever repartee, and Coward’s signature sophisticated humor, “Blithe Spirit” is a delightful blend of farce, ghostly encounters, and social commentary. It explores themes of love, marriage, and the supernatural, while showcasing Coward’s sharp observations of human nature.
Auditions:
Tuesday August 15th at 7pm.
Thursday August 17th at 7pm.
Saturday August 19th at starting at Noon.
Callbacks:
Callbacks will be Sunday August 20th starting at 4pm (as needed)
All auditions and callbacks will be at the Copake Grange, 628 Empire Road, Copake NY. The Grange Building is on Empire Road about 50 yards from the clocktower intersection in the center of Copake.
COVID vaccination is required in order to be cast. Please bring proof of vaccination to your audition.

EDITH – the speedy maid who has spiritual connections of her own
RUTH – the 2nd wife of Charles Condimine
CHARLES – an established write living in the country and now trying to write about clairvoyance and connections with the spirits
DR. GEORGE BRADMAN – a member of the local grentry and friend of Charles
MRS. VIOLET BRADMAN – DR. BRADMAN’s wife and confidant
MADAME ARCATI – a well-known medium engaged by Charles to conduct a séance for his literary research
ELVIRA – the 1st wife of Charles, who has died but responds to the séance run by Madame Arcati
All roles are available except as noted below.
