Get a small movie role in North Carolina – New Christy Martin movie is in production in the Charlotte, North Carolina area.
The upcoming feature film “Apopka” (working title), set to begin filming in Charlotte, NC, is seeking locals to the area interested in working as paid background extras.
This Biographical film will star Sydney Sweeney, known for her roles in Euphoria, The White Lotus, Immaculate, and The Handmaid’s Tale. Sweeney will play the legendary female boxer Christy Martin, whose life story is the focus of the film.
The project is produced by Black Bear and Anonymous Content and will be directed by acclaimed filmmaker David Michod, known for Animal Kingdom and The King. The film will explore Christy Martin’s meteoric rise to fame in the boxing world as well as her personal battles and triumphs.

Christy Martin, often referred to as “The Coal Miner’s Daughter,” is a trailblazing figure in women’s boxing. Born in 1968 in West Virginia, she rose to prominence in the 1990s, becoming the first female boxer to gain widespread recognition and respect in a male-dominated sport. Known for her fierce determination, powerful punches, and relentless spirit, Martin held multiple world titles and was instrumental in bringing women’s boxing into the mainstream. Her career, however, was marked by intense personal struggles, including surviving a brutal attack by her then-husband.

Filming is scheduled to take place in Charlotte and the surrounding areas from late September to mid-November. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a powerful and inspiring story.
