Casting Call in Chicago for new series “Emperor of Ocean Park.”
MGM+ has greenlit the series adaptation of the gripping suspense novel Emperor of Ocean Park, written by Stephen L. Carter. The upcoming show is currently filming in the Chicago, Illinois area and is in need of area locals to fill small, non speaking background roles. The roles are paid.
According to reports in Deadline, Forest Whitaker has joined the cast to play the character of Judge Oliver Garland. Whitaker joins other cast members Gratham Coleman, Tiffany Mack and Paulina Lule.
This highly anticipated adaptation has received a 10-episode order from the network and is being developed by Sherman Payne, known for his work on Shameless, along with production support from John Wells Productions and Warner Bros. Television.

The announcement follows the project’s initial unveiling earlier this year, coinciding with the rebranding of the Amazon-owned company from Epix to MGM+. Damian Marcano, known for his work on Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, is set to direct multiple episodes of the series.
The story takes place amidst the realms of politics, Ivy League academia, and the scenic beaches of Martha’s Vineyard, the series revolves around Talcott Garland, a law professor hailing from the esteemed Ivy League. Talcott’s tranquil existence is abruptly disrupted following the sudden passing of his father, Judge Oliver Garland, purportedly due to a heart attack.

“The Emperor of Ocean Park” is written by author and law professor, Stephen L. Carter, in 2002. The work of fiction was followed by two more novels in 2007 and 2008. Garnering widespread acclaim, “The Emperor of Ocean Park” spent an impressive 11 weeks on The New York Times best-seller list post-release. Narrated through Tal’s perspective, the novel delves into themes of race, privilege, politics, and the law, interwoven with subtle references to the strategic game of chess.

LOOKING FOR PEOPLE WHO CAN PLAY THE FOLLOWING: We are looking for a REAL COUPLE, African American Ethnicity, 18 – 24 Ages. You WILL BE kissing on camera, dancing VERY closely in a reggaeton/dancehall style. The Couple WILL BE SELECTED BY THE DIRECTOR. This couple’s role also will have significant camera time.
There are 3 scenes you MUST be a part of: Arcade gathering, House Party AND Police interrogation. You MUST be flexible and/or have an open schedule IF any of these film dates change.
As of now, production IS considering bussing some of the Background to the Burb days.
TO BE CONSIDERED: MUST BE ABLE TO WORK ALL 3 DATES. THIS IS INCREDABLY IMPORTANT FOR THE CONTINUITY OF THE SHOW. You BOTH must be ok with what the Director is asking you to do, kiss and dance in the House Party mainly. You BOTH also need to have knowledge and ability to do the style of dance.
