Theater Audions in Monroe, Georgia for “Disaster: A Musical”

On Stage Playhouse, Monroe’s community theater, invites aspiring performers to audition for the musical comedy “Disaster.”

Auditions are scheduled for Wednesday, May 1, from 6-8 p.m., and Saturday, May 4, from 1-4 p.m. The production will run for nine performances from July 12-28. Artistic Director Marc Hammes describes the show as a side-splitting tale of New York City elite embarking on a calamity-laden cruise, featuring earthquakes, tidal waves, infernos, and even killer rats, all set to a backdrop of ’70s hit songs. Rated PG-13, the production boasts Hammes as director, Mandy Stertzbach as vocal musical director, and Amanda Gibson as choreographer.

Auditions, open to individuals aged 16 and above of any ethnicity, offer roles ranging from a faded disco queen to a dashing man and even a gambling-addicted nun. Actors and singers are encouraged to attend auditions, bringing a 1-minute song either sung to a track or acapella. Additionally, there will be a cold reading from the script and potentially a dance audition. On Stage is conveniently located at 215 High School Avenue in Monroe.

About the Show: “DISASTER!” is a hilarious musical comedy featuring iconic hits from the ’70s. Set aboard a floating casino and discotheque in 1979 New York, the story follows a diverse cast of characters as they face earthquakes, tidal waves, infernos, and killer rats. Directed by three-time Emmy Award nominee Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick, this PG-13 production promises laughs, catchy tunes, and plenty of surprises.

Audition Information:

  • Ages 16 & Up
  • Auditionees should come anytime during the specified dates and times, prepared for a 30-minute audition slot.
  • Prepare approximately 1 minute of a song to sing (with a track or acapella).
  • Cold readings from the script and a potential dance audition may be included.

Rehearsal Information: Rehearsals will generally be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7-9pm, and Saturdays from 2-5pm. No absences allowed during tech weeks (June 24-29, July 8-12) and performances. No rehearsal July 2-6.
