Ballet Theatre of Maryland Announces Auditions for All-New Annapolis-Themed Nutcracker
This holiday season, the Ballet Theatre of Maryland (BTM) invites young ballet dancers to audition for a reimagined version of The Nutcracker. This ballet is one that celebrates the rich history and charm of Annapolis. Slated to premiere in December 2025 at Maryland Hall, this world-premiere production will feature brand-new choreography, dazzling new sets and costumes, and an innovative narrative inspired by local landmarks and events.
Artistic Director Nicole Kelsch is at the helm of this ambitious reimagining, which will weave Annapolitan heritage into the beloved holiday classic. Picture Uncle Drosselmeier’s Nutcracker doll as a treasured relic from the War of 1812, or an epic naval battle between the Nutcracker and Rat King unfolding in Annapolis Harbor. Clara’s journey through the Kingdom of Snowflakes will take her inside a snow globe rendition of the historic William Paca House, before she arrives in a whimsical Kingdom of Sweets, where 1850s Main Street delights spring to life.
Dancer Auditions:
Dancers accepted into the Student Cast will have the rare opportunity to train and perform alongside BTM’s professional company members, participating in both studio rehearsals and live stage performances. This year’s production will run December 13, 14, 20, and 21 at Maryland Hall.
Auditions will take place on June 8, 2025 at the BTM Merritt Annex Studios, located at:
