Opera Messiah
Audition Location: online, then live in Houston, TX
Audition Category: Theater

Houston Grand Opera (HGO) announces supernumerary auditions for one ADULT ACTOR and one CHILD ACTOR to perform non-singing, non-speaking acting roles in a staged production of Messiah, composed by Handel and arranged by Mozart, created by the acclaimed late director Robert Wilson.

Messiah will be staged in the United States for the first time at HGO, in the first performances of this choral masterpiece in company history. In Wilson’s interpretation, the Messiah, a narrative-free meditation on Jesus’s role as the Christian messiah, originally conceived for concert halls, transforms into a surreal and mesmerizing theatrical spectacle reminiscent of Disney’s Fantasia.

BREAKDOWN:

YOUNG GIRL: A girl approximately 8 – 13 years old, 5’2” or shorter. The performer must be able to follow directions, be still for long periods of time, and be able to remember and repeat highly stylized movements. A dance background is desirable.

OLD MAN: An older man approximately 60-80 years old – the performer should have the ability to display a range of emotions and expressions without speaking. Must be able to kneel for an extended period.
