Open Auditions in Brooklyn, New York for “The 39 Steps”

The Heights Players will be holding open actor auditions for their upcoming production of “The 39 Steps”

Synopsis: Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps, a fast-paced whodunit. This two-time Tony and Drama Desk Award winner is packed with nonstop laughs and loads of zany characters. In The 39 Steps, a man bored with his present life, meets a mysterious woman who says she’s a spy. When he takes her home, she is murdered. Soon, a mysterious organization called “The 39 Steps” is hot on the man’s trail and in mad pursuit from England through Scotland.

Auditions:

Monday, Nov. 10th at 7pm-10pm
Tuesday, Nov. 11th at 7pm-10pm

Callbacks: Wednesday, Nov. 12th 7pm-10pm
Sign ups will begin at 6:15pm, you do not need to attend both nights of auditions.?

Rehearsal Dates:

First rehearsal will be Sunday, Nov. 16th
Sundays from 6:00-9:00pm
Monday-Thursday from 7:00-10:00pm

Please note, you may not be called to all rehearsals.

Performance Dates:

January 9th-18th
Friday & Saturday shows start at 8pm
Sunday shows start at 2pm.
Additionally, there will be a 2pm matinee on Saturday, January 17th.

Audition Requirements:

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

A familiarity with the Hitchcock film, The 39 Steps (1935), is highly recommended as the play is a direct spoof on the film. You may find this on Youtube. (see clip below)

  • Richard Hannay: 30s-40s. A Hitchcock-esque suave, dashing, debonaire fellow. A physically adept comedian. Must be able to do a British accent.
  • Annabella Schmidt: 20s-30s. An exotic and intriguing spy. Must be able to do a German accent. Actress will also play Margaret.
  • Pamela: 20s-30s. The quintessential Hitchcock-esqe leading lady. She is bold, emotionally and intellectually intelligent. British accent required.
  • Margaret: 20s-30s. The wife of a stern religious Scottish farmer. Scottish accent required. Actress will also play Annabella.
  • Clown #1 & Clown #2: Any age, gender, race. Vivacious and debonair, both clowns expertly execute multiple male and female roles with skillful physical comedic skills. English and Scottish accents a must.

Please note that The Heights Players is a non-profit theater and this is a non-equity production. All cast and crew volunteer their time and talent. The Heights Players is a membership organization, there is no pay or stipend for any role or position. There is a $20 membership fee, if cast.??
