Open Performer Auditions in NYC for “Charlie & the Chocolate Factory”

Royal Caribbean Cruises is holding open-call auditions in New York City for its upcoming production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at sea.

The show will be performed aboard the Legend of the Seas, alongside an additional Royal Caribbean Signature Production. If you live in NYC, are a performer and looking to set off on an adventure by taking a cruise ship performer job, read on.

The production is seeking talented principal performers and ensemble members who can bring energy, creativity, and strong performance skills to the stage. Principals should be exceptional singer-actors with the versatility to perform in both musical theater and pop/rock styles. Strong comedic timing and movement ability are encouraged. Ensemble performers should be skilled dancer-vocalists with solid technique and commercial appeal, capable of portraying a variety of roles including Oompa Loompas, reporters, and other featured characters. Tap dancing experience is a plus for ensemble performers.

Open Auditions:

Auditions will take place at Pearl Studios, 500 8th Avenue in New York City. The open call for principals is on October 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. (sign-in begins at 9:30 a.m.), and the open call for ensemble performers is on October 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. (sign-in at 9:30 a.m.). Limited spots are available for both calls.

Principals should prepare two contrasting songs — one contemporary musical theater piece and one pop/rock number — and bring a headshot, resume, and personal songbook. Ensemble candidates will begin with a dance call and should also prepare 16 bars of a contemporary musical theater song.

Rehearsals are scheduled for April 6 through May 29, 2026, with contracts beginning May 30, 2026. Performers must be available to travel internationally. Royal Caribbean welcomes performers of all genders, body types, and abilities to audition for this exciting opportunity to join a world-class production at sea.

Principals: Prepare two songs – One contemporary musical theater and one pop/rock.

Lead Vocalist
Outstanding singer/actors with the ability to sing pop/rock genres and possess an excellent sense of comedy. Good movement skills a plus. Will also perform in our original Signature Production.

Dancer Vocalist
Versatile singers and excellent dancers capable of singing in both musical theater and pop styles. Solid experience with harmony work needed. Will also perform in our original Signature Production.

CASTING FOLLOWING ROLES:

Willy Wonka (Featured Actor)
30 to 50 years old, 5’9”-6’1”, all ethnicities man. The charismatic, charming star of the show. Lithe, eccentric, and mysterious, he embodies a persona larger than life that can shift from comical and magical to dark and enigmatic. He is searching for someone new to take over his candy empire. An agile physical actor with great stature. Vocal range from A2 to G4.

Charlie Bucket (Featured Actor)
Playing age 12-14 however actual age must be 18+ for employment. 4’11”-5’6”, all ethnicities, ALL GENDERS. A sweet, smart, hopeful, and loving child with wonderful innocence and vulnerability. Charlie is the heart of the story. Vocal range from G#3 to F5.

Grandpa Joe (Featured Actor)
48 to 65 years old, 5’9”-6’2”, all ethnicities man. Charlie’s imaginative, fun, kind, and loving grandfather. After many years confined to a bed, his youthful energy returns when Charlie finds the Golden Ticket. He becomes Charlie’s companion on the tour of the chocolate factory. Warm, with a dry wit, the defender of Charlie. Vocal range from G#2 to G4.

Mrs. Bucket (Featured Singer)
28 to 42 years old, 5’5”-5’10”, all ethnicities woman. Charlie’s warm, generous, and kind-hearted mother. She is a worrier and a warrior. Vocal range from G3 to E5.

Mrs. Gloop (Featured Singer)
30 to 50 years old, 5’5”-5’10”, all ethnicities woman. Augustus Gloop’s German, Wagnerian mother. She is constantly trying to satisfy her child’s insatiable appetite and smiles as though it’s affixed to her face. Vocal range from Bb3 to D5.

Augustus Gloop (Featured Singer)
Playing age 15 however actual age must be 18+ for employment. 5’3”-5’8”, all ethnicities man. A gluttonous, Mommy’s boy of a child who loves food and is adored by his mother. His appetite often leads him into trouble; he is always ready to fill himself with more and doesn’t know when to stop. Vocal range from Bb3 to G5.

Mr. Salt (Featured Singer)
35 to 50 years old, 5’9”-6’2”, all ethnicities man. Veruca’s working class dad from the north of England that’s succeeded in business. Distracted, and high-strung, he finds it impossible to say no to her demands and believes money can solve any problem. Vocal range from Ab2 to Ab4.

Veruca Salt (Featured Singer)
Playing age 13-14 however actual age must be 18+ for employment. 5’0”-5’3”, all ethnicities woman. A vicious, determined, and spoiled young girl who throws tantrums when she doesn’t get her way. A prima ballerina who does not take “no” for an answer, ballet skills are a plus. Vocal range from Ab4 to Db5.

Mr. Beauregarde (Featured Singer)
30 to 45 years old, 5’9”-6’2”, all ethnicities man – Black or Latino encouraged. Violet’s ineffectual, competitive, and boastful father. He is obsessed with her success and eager to capitalize on her fame, often ignoring her insults and backtalk. Vocal range from F#3 to G4.

Violet Beauregarde (Featured Singer)
Playing age 14-15 however actual age must be 18+ for employment. 5’0”-5’3”, all ethnicities woman – Black or Latino encouraged. Confident, forward, and full of attitude. A competitive, gum-obsessed pop princess and influencer, she boasts of her accomplishments and is a world champion gum chewer. Vocal range from C#4 to F#5.

Mrs. Teavee (Featured Singer)
35 to 50+ years old, 5’5”-5’10”, all ethnicities woman. Tense, extreme, and hilarious. She needs medication and booze to cope with her spoiled, violent, and terrifying son. On the verge of a nervous breakdown but funny, she is a standout comedic role. Vocal range from G3 to Eb5.

Mike Teavee (Featured Singer)
Playing age 15-16 however actual age must be 18+ for employment. 5’1”-5’8”, all ethnicities man. A screen-addicted, tech-abusing boy obsessed with television, video games, and gadgets. A fireplug of energy, he feels he can control everything. Vocal range from G3 to Bb4.

Mrs. Green (Featured Singer)
30 to 45 years old, 5’5”-5’10”, all ethnicities woman. A mysterious and slightly comical vegetable seller, who seems too knowing of Charlie’s fate. Warm hearted and cutting all at the same time. Vocal range from Bb3 to D5.

Jerry (Featured Singer)
24 to 40 years old, 5’9”-6’2”, all ethnicities man. A cheesy, anchorman type, pristine in presentation but it’s all for show. Behind the fake, bubbly persona is a distain for his co-host. Vocal range from A2 to G4.

Cherry (Lead Vocalist)
24 to 38 years old, 5’5”-5’10”, all ethnicities woman. The on-location presenter with an annoying laugh and over the top delivery. Picture perfect for TV and she knows it. She thinks Jerry, her co-host, is an unfunny loser. Vocal range from G3 to E3.

Male Ensemble (Dancer Vocalist)
18+ years old, 5’2”-6’2”, all ethnicities man. Excellent dancer vocalists with strong technical & commercial abilities to take on various ensemble roles such as reporters, Oompa Loompas, squirrels, Bavarians, cheer squad, dancers, and other featured characters. Tap dancing a plus.

Female Ensemble (Dancer Vocalist)
18+ years old, 4’11”-5’10”, all ethnicities woman. Excellent dancer vocalists with strong technical & commercial abilities to take on various ensemble roles such as reporters, Oompa Loompas, squirrels, Bavarians, cheer squad, dancers, and other featured characters. Tap dancing a plus.
