Auditions Announced for Little Shop of Horrors at The Henegar

The Henegar has announced auditions for its upcoming production of Little Shop of Horrors, the darkly comedic musical about love, ambition, and one very hungry plant. Auditions are open to adult vocalists, actors, and dancers ages 18 and up.

In-person auditions will be held:
Sunday, August 3, 6–10 PM
Monday, August 4, 6–10 PM

Rehearsals run August 24 through October 2, with performances scheduled for four weekends from October 3–26, including Friday evenings, Saturday matinees and evenings, and Sunday matinees. Tech week is mandatory September 28–October 2.

Roles are available for all principal characters, including Seymour, Audrey, Mr. Mushnik, Orin the sadistic dentist, the trio of streetwise Urchins, and puppeteers and voice performers for the infamous Audrey II. The production is also seeking ensemble members to fill additional featured roles and assist with puppeteering.

This live theaterical production will be performed at the Henegar in Florida.

Roles

  • Seymour Krelborn -Bari-Tenor (A2-G4)
  • An insecure, put-upon florist’s clerk and eventual hero. He is a genuine, well-meaning man who is taken for granted because of his clumsy ways and poor social skills.
  • (Male Identifying, able to play 25 to 35)
  • Audrey- Mezzo-Soprano – (G#3-D5)
  • Bleached-blond, Billie-Dawn-like, secret love of Seymour’s life. She has poor self-worth and education, but incredibly good looks and a sweet and vulnerable demeanor.
  • (Female Identifying, able to play 25 to 35)
  • Mr. Mushnik- Baritone – (G2-G4)
  • The seasoned owner of the failing East Side flower shop and Seymour’s nosy boss. He is profit-driven, greedy, and manipulative.
  • (Male Identifying, able to play 50 to 65)
  • Orin Scrivello – Baritone – (G2-G4)
  • An egotistical dentist with a passion for leather and sadistic tendencies. Audrey’s abusive boyfriend, who is targeted by Seymour.
  • (Male Identifying, able to play 30 to 40)
  • Urchins- Mezzo-Soprano (Ab3-F5)
  • Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon are Diverse street urchins, acting as the occasional Greek Chorus. Seeking performers who are both strong vocalists AND strong movers. Young, hip, and smart, “all knowing.”
  • (Non-Gender Specific, able to play 20 to 35)
  • Voice of the Plant- Audrey II – Baritone (G2-G4)
  • An actor/vocalist located offstage. The voice is that of a conniving, street-smart ‘villain.’ A funky Rhythm and Blues voice is best. May partially puppeteer The Plant.
  • (Male Identifying, able to play 20 to 50)
  • The Plant – Audrey II Puppeteer/Ensemble

Also:

Puppet. An anthropomorphic cross between a Venus flytrap and an avocado, the plant has an appetite for human flesh that is appeased by Seymour. Puppeteer doubles as other sizes of the plant and some ensemble characters.

Seeking one or two additional ensemble who may assist with puppeteering and to play Customers, Reporters, Professionals.

To secure a guaranteed audition slot, performers are encouraged to email auditions@henegar.org with their vocal part, preferred audition date and time, and a headshot. Walk-ins will be accommodated in the next available slot, though longer waits may occur.

Actors traveling from more than 90 miles away may submit a virtual audition by Saturday, August 2, including headshot, résumé, a vocal selection from the show, and a short dance reel if applicable.
