ABOUT THE SHOW:
Nunsense is a hilarious spoof about the misadventures of five nuns trying to manage a fundraiser. Sadly, the rest of the sisterhood died from botulism after eating vichyssoise prepared by Sister Julia, Child of God. Thus, the remaining nuns – ballet-loving Sister Leo, street-wise Sister Robert Anne, befuddled Sister Mary Amnesia, the Mother Superior Sister Regina, and mistress of the novices Sister Mary Hubert – stage a talent show in order to raise the money to bury their dearly departed.
________________
CASTING: Casting 5 Female Presenting Actors, 18 years older and up.
- Sister Mary Regina: Mother Superior. In charge of the convent. Older than the other nuns. Outrageous, quick-witted, full of energy. Used to be a tightrope walker along with her whole family, misses the spotlight, and cannot resist it.
Vocal Range: Mezzo/Alto, (F3-D5)
Age Range: 40+ - Sister Mary Hubert: Second in command to Sister Mary Regina and constantly competing with her. Serves as a mentor to the younger nuns but loves to let loose and “kick off her heels” with the slightest encouragement. Joined the convent with full intent of working her way up to mother superior.
Vocal Range: Alto (belter) with gospel flair (F3-C5)
Age Range: 30+ - Sister Mary Amnesia: Has amnesia, cannot remember her name or where she is from because a crucifix fell on her head. Very optimistic, yet shy at first. Attacks every moment of every day with childlike enthusiasm. Could be classified as “ditsy.” Has a puppet alter ego named Sister Mary Anette.
Vocal Range: High Soprano with Broadway and Country influence. (G3-D6)
Age Range: Any - Sister Robert Anne: Street smart and tough. She knows a lot more about the world than the other nuns. Cast as the “understudy” in the nuns’ production. Desperate for her moment in the spotlight as well. Brooklyn accent optional.
Vocal Range: Mezzo/Alto (Belter), (F3-F5)
Age: Any - Sister Mary Leo: Novice nun, still learning the ropes and coming to terms with giving up her “civilian” life. She is an aspriring ballerina. Intent on being the world’s first nun-ballerina. Easily swayed to join in on mischief. Note: Ballet / en pointe experience not necessary.
Vocal Range: Soprano (A3- G5)
Age: Youngest of the group, but could be any age.
