It’s described as a musical fantasy directed by Julie Taymor with music by Elliot Goldenthal.
“The Grand Illusion” seeks dancers in the New York City area. The show will be running at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) from May 11 to June 6, 2027…with opening night being June 3rd, 2027 and preview performances beginning in May at Brooklyn Academy of Music.
“The Grand Delusion” is an original musical described as a modern day fairy tale. This musical is set in New York City, India and a magical world where anything can happen.
The story follows two best friends – A modern-day fairy tale, THE GRAND DELUSION is an original musical set in contemporary New York City, contemporary India, and a magical, mythical plane where the impossible can happen. At its heart is the quintessential love triangle. It tells the story of two best friends in New York City, Ben and Nanda, and their passionate erotic love for the same woman, Maya.
Music inspired by Bollywood, hip hop, African rhythms and contemporary dance. Please note that singing is not required.
The production is directed by Julie Taymor, known for her visually inventive theatrical work, with music by Elliot Goldenthal.
Please note there is pay. Listed rate for dancers hired listed as $1471 weekly minimum.

Audition Notice:
SEEKING: Extraordinary dancers and movement artists.
Powerful sense of individuality, rhythm and theatrical presence performers who are technically accomplished but also curious, fearless and open to experimentation. The work will be created through the meeting and collision of movement worlds, drawing from street and club cultures, Hip-Hop, Bollywood and South Asian influences, grounded African rhythms and contemporary physicality, without asking performers to master every form.
We are looking for performers who can bring their individuality fully into the choreographic process while remaining open, responsive and transformative within the evolving language of the work. Singing is a plus but not required.

The show is scheduled for a workshop in November 2026, with rehearsals beginning in March 2027 and previews starting in May at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
