Open Casting Call in Savannah for “The Birth of a Nation” Starring Armie Hammer

The historic film “The Birth of a Nation” is beginning production in the Savannah area this summer.

An open casting call is coming up this weekend in the Savannah, Georgia area. The movie is seeking paid background actors ages 7 to 65 to fill roles in scenes filming shortly. The production is also hiring experienced stand-ins who would be available for on-going work for the productions duration. If you live in the Savannah area and would love to get a small paid role in a movie, here is your shot…..

The film is based on the Nat Turner rebellion of 1831 in which Turner and his group of rebel slaves rose up killing over 50 people in the Virginia area, the most people ever killed in a slave uprising. The rebels were eventually caught but Nat Turner escaped and survived for a few months. According to a report in Variety, Armie Hammer has joined the cast of historical drama “The Birth of a Nation.”  Nate Parker wrote the script, will star and will also make his directorial debut in the project. Also starring in the Nat Turner biopic are Aja Naomi King (“How to Get Away With Murder”), Gabrielle Union, Aunjanue Ellis, Colman Domingo, Dwight Henry, Roger Guenveur Smith,  and Arnie Hammer.

And yes…. The project chose to use the same title as the highly controversial, D.W. Griffith’s silent propaganda film, “The Birth of a Nation” of 1915.

“The Birth of a Nation” is being produced by David S. Goyer and Kevin Turen of Phantom Four along with Nnamdi Asomugha, Jonathan Baker, Jason Michael Berman, Michael Finley, Manu Gargi and Ben Renzo.
